Despite the recent high profile launch of Google+ attracting millions of users, businesses aren’t quite giving up on Facebook marketing in the social media marketing stakes just yet.

New research by TBG Digital, and cited in a report by clickz.com, has shown a significant rise in the number of paid Facebook advertising campaigns.

Brand advertising campaigns went up by 104 per cent compared to results posted for the first quarter.

Specifically, retail was found to be the quickest-growing marketing sector in advertising for the social networking site – accounting for 36 per cent of all impressions.

Campaigns for finance and credit cards were second on the list for growth, whilst Facebook advertising efforts aimed at the jobs and education sectors also rose.

The research also found that brands that focused advertising on current ‘fans’ or ‘likes’ on Facebook saw a 435 per cent improvement in conversion rates compared to when they didn’t.
