Odeon signs up to Facebook places

By Danielle Hadley

Facebook thumbs up

Cinema-goers can now claim free popcorn thanks to a new Facebook deal with Odeon cinemas.

According to thisismoney.co.uk, the cinema chain has become one of the first retailers to offer its customers freebies for getting involved in their Facebook marketing strategy. Facebook Deals launched in the UK earlier this year after the success of the service in the US as part of its location based Facebook Places app, available to mobile users.

Available to anyone who ‘checks in’ to an Odeon cinema on the Facebook Places app will be able to get one free small popcorn box until 31st March. The offer is limited to the first 1,000 boxes, with 50 boxes allocated per cinema.

Luke Vetere, sales and marketing director of Odeon told the website: “We’re hugely excited about using social media to engage with film fans and are proud to be the first cinema chain to utilise the Facebook Deals platform to reward guests for coming to Odeon.”
