Dunkin’ Donuts Facebook Places campaign to be last of its kind

By Alistair Harris

Facebook thumbs up

Although Facebook is set to discontinue its Places check-in feature, Dunkin’ Donuts have revealed they plan to use it during the tool’s last five weeks, according to a report published by ClickZ.

Dunkin’ Donuts’ latest social media marketing campaign, entitled “Be The President Of Dunkin’ Nation”, through Facebook Places is expected to be the platform’s last marketing effort of it’s kind.

Fans will be able to check in via Facebook or the social mobile application, Foursquare for the chance to win a prize.

Included on the prize list are: a 50 inch LCD screen television, a $200 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card – complete with personalisation, a T-Shirt carrying the slogan “Dunkin’ Nation President” and a campaign commemorating coffee mug.

The closure of Facebook Places was announced in a blog post published by the company on Tuesday (August 23); changes in the social network’s privacy policy have been attributed for the application being discontinued.

Despite this news, Dunkin’ Donuts are set to continue on with their social media marketing campaigns; the company are currently in the process of testing a check-in special on Foursquare until the end of this month.

Users that have their Foursquare accounts synced with their Amex credit card will receive $1 back, when they check-in on the app after spending $5 at Dunkin’ Donuts.
