Brands are being urged to look to Facebook in order to increase understanding of consumers.

Last week at the Technology for Marketing and Advertising (TFM&A) held at London’s Earls Court, Stephen Haines, commercial director of Facebook’s UK operations, spoke publicly about using Facebook to gain an insight into what consumers want.

He spoke of the recent release of Cadbury’s Wispa which was brought back to the production line after a Facebook group was setup. The group was not setup by Cadbury’s but the consumers themselves.

Mr Haines commented on the importance of thinking about consumers when using social media platforms.

“If you put the user at the centre of everything you’re doing with regard to branding and marketing, you probably won’t go wrong moving forward,” he added.

Social media marketing is becoming an increasingly popular with UK businesses. Many campaigns are being designed specifically for Facebook, but Twitter and LinkedIN are also innovative platforms to get in touch with new and existing customers.
